About This Place

Mykenos Mediterranean Grill, nestled at 227105 Rib Mountain Dr in Wausau, WI, is a delightful culinary gem where authentic Mediterranean and American flavors come together in a warm family-friendly setting. Specializing in a broad spectrum of Mediterranean favorites—from succulent gyros and kabobs to flavorful falafel and shawarma—this restaurant offers an inviting journey into Greek and Middle Eastern cuisine that is both comforting and exciting.

Step inside, and you’re greeted by a cozy, unpretentious atmosphere that instantly feels like sitting at a longtime friend’s table. The welcoming smiles of the owners, especially Ahaa, create a genuine warmth that complements the rich aromas wafting from the kitchen. It’s this personal touch, paired with thoughtfully prepared dishes, that keeps patrons coming back time and again.

The menu is a delicious tapestry of bold, fresh flavors. The Gyro Melt Plate stands out with tender strips of gyro meat, sautéed green peppers and onions, all smothered in a melted three-cheese blend that oozes comfort in every bite. Served alongside homemade Tzatziki—a creamy blend of Greek yogurt, cucumber, and herbs—the dish is a perfect balance of savory and refreshing. For those who crave the classics, the Gyros Plate with Fries offers juicy, well-seasoned meat piled high inside warm pita bread, paired with crisp golden fries. The falafel lovers will find delight in the Falafel Sandwich Plate—crispy, flavorful patties with the earthy bite of chickpeas harmonized with the cool richness of hummus.

Kabob enthusiasts are equally well served here. The Lamb Kabob Plate features three skewers of tender lamb cooked to perfection, complemented by grilled vegetables, warm pita bread, and a choice of Greek salad, French fries, or rice. The lamb’s juicy texture and charred edges melt effortlessly in your mouth, while the salad adds a refreshing crunch and zesty notes. Equally enticing are the Beef Kabob and Chicken Kabob Plates, each showcasing rich Mediterranean spices and fresh ingredients.

No Mediterranean meal is complete without the beloved desserts, and Mykenos delivers wonderfully with its flaky, nutty Baklava. According to customers, the baklava’s delicate phyllo dough layers and perfectly balanced sweetness create an irresistible finale to any meal.

What truly sets Mykenos apart is the heartfelt experience behind the food. A recent visitor, Brook J, admits they “slept on this restaurant for too long” but were blown away by the generous portions and authentic flavors. Whether it’s a gyro sandwich overflowing with meat or the family-style mixed grill, customers consistently praise the quality and care evident in each dish. Zaid Sohail, visiting from out of town, appreciated the availability of Halal options and described the atmosphere as “great,” noting the incredible combo of meats in their Mykenos Burger. Ross Ballard raved about the tender gyro meat and flavorful homemade Tzatziki, recommending the baklava as a must-try. Another patron, One City Gypsy, found the genuine friendliness of the staff matched the food’s excellence, reminding them of dining with close friends. Chris Warner’s favorite is the lamb kabobs, praising the perfect cooking and accompanying grilled vegetables.

For families, the kids’ menu is both thoughtful and tasty, offering options like Chicken Strips, Hot Dog Pita, and Grilled Cheese Pita served with fries and drink, making it an ideal spot to satisfy even the littlest appetites.

In every aspect, from the savory spices to the inviting smiles, Mykenos Mediterranean Grill is more than just a meal—it’s an experience of genuine hospitality and authentic flavors. We slept on this restaurant for too long. Didn’t know what to expect. It never looked busy but we decided to give it a try recently and were super impressed. The gyro sandwich was packed full of meat! I honestly could have ordered a second pita and made another with all of it! Really good flavors and my hubby liked the mixed grill and salad. Rice was a little bland but we weren’t there for the rice. Ordered baklava to go and ate it for breakfast the next day.

Coming from out of town and looking for Halal options in the Wausau area, I was NOT disappointed. Got the Mykenos Burger and the combo of the meat and gyros was amazing! Great food, prices and family atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

This place is a great little find! Happened upon it by chance, but I'm glad I did. The Gyro meat was tender, and the homemade Tzatziki sauce has a great flavor that doesn't overpower the rest of the gyro. The baklava has a really good flaky Philo dough, and the filling is nutty and not too sweet. Highly recommend this place. I'm looking to try the baba ghanoush next time I'm in town.

From the outside, the front isnt eye catching but just simple. The interior atmosphere is about the same. However, when u see the smile from Ahaa, or her other family the atmosphere reminds me of sitting at a long-time friend's table. Ahaa was very kind and welcoming. All questions I asked were met with sincere smiles and conversation. I ordered the original gyro with Greek salad as my side. Omg it was all heavely! Ahaa told me they make everything in house. I also got 3 pieces of baklava to go. Overall, I'd give the food a 9/10. Thanks so much for sharing the table with me, Ahaa! -Ona

Food is amazing! My favorite is the lamb kabobs!! The meat is cooked to perfection and the grilled tomatoes and onions are an excellent addition. The salad is a good size. Other options are fries or rice which are tasty too. Baklava is soooo good! The family is friendly and helpful. Always a pleasure to visit and eat here.

Had the chicken gyro salad and an order of falafels… very generous portions, they even give you a pita with the salad! It’s so flavorful! I can’t wait to return and try some of their other menu options - will be hard to because the chicken gyro salad was so good!

Can I give 10 stars for the food?? First time there and can't wait to go back. We ordered the chicken gyro sandwich and the lamb kabob plate. Friendly people with easy access for those with walkers or wheel chairs and clean bathroom.
